Event Details

An innovative approach to improving the healthy work environment while simultaneously addressing nurse staffing was introduced by the Organization of Nurse Leaders of NJ (ONLNJ) in 2017 with the support of the Chief Nursing Officers Constituency of the New Jersey Hospital Association, the New Jersey State Nurses Association (NJSNA), the NJ Council of Magnet Organizations (NJCOMO), and the NJ Council of Deans and Directors. The model framework is based on the American Association of Critical Care Nurses Standards for Establishing and Sustaining Health Work Environments. ONL NJ is pleased to announce the launch of the sixth cohort of the NWESC to begin in the fall of 2022.

The NWESC's have expanded into several cohorts and all NWESC members will attend three education sessions with curricula based upon the AACN (2016; 2005) Standards for Establishing and Sustaining Healthy Work Environment which include:

  • Skilled Communication
  • True Collaboration
  • Effective Decision Making
  • Appropriate Staffing
  • Meaningful Recognition
  • Authentic Leadership
  • Resilience (adopted by ONL NJ in 2021)

ONL NJ Cohort 6 virtual education sessions will include:

Session 1 – Skilled Communication and Effective Decision Making - October 21, 2022

Session 2 – Appropriate Staffing (Basic) and Authentic Leadership - December 9, 2022

Session 3 – Appropriate Staffing (Advanced), True Collaboration and Resilience - January 20, 2023

Learner Outcome(s) for Cohort 5:

1) At the conclusion of this program, the learner will gain knowledge in how to establish and sustain a healthy work environment and will self-report confidence in adopting a Nursing Workplace Environment and Staffing Council (NWESC), which may be transferable to their practice, nursing department and organization.

2) Within 6 months of the Cohort 6 Session1, learners will self-report having planned and established a Nursing Workplace Environment and Staffing Council (NWESC), as the framework for their practice, nursing department and organization.

Successful completion of the 3 webinar sessions is defined as attendance for 100 percent for each webinar learning session and a completed course evaluation for each session.

Target Audience:

Includes existing NWESC hospital council members from previous cohorts and newly identified hospitals who are on the journey to establishing the NWESC model.

Continuing Nursing Education Credits:

This activity has been submitted to the American Association of Critical Care Nursing for approval to award contact hours. The American Association of Critical Care Nurses is accredited Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
