Overview:


Strong leaders in nursing are vital to help navigate the constant evolution of health care. Nurse leaders do more than balance costs, monitor productivity, and maintain patient and staff satisfaction. They serve as role models and influence health care organizations at all levels. A strong nurse leader motivates their colleagues, setting the tone for a safe, civil workplace with a culture of high morale and job retention.


Essential to the success of today's nurse leaders and aspiring nurse leaders is the comprehensive understanding of the key characteristics, skills and attributes that embody an effective nurse leader and how the nurse leader leverages the elements that contribute to a healthy nurse work environment, even in times of unexpected crisis.


Growing future nurse leaders embodies the mission and vision of ONL NJ, which requires educating and building confidence in emerging leaders. The future nurse leader's ultimate responsibility will be to continue the very important work being done today to improve the nursing practice environment, and most importantly, patient outcomes


Please join the Organization of Nurse Leaders of New Jersey as we explore the key characteristics, skills and the tools that contribute to the success of nurse leaders and the vital strategies that make for a confident leader and a healthy work environment.


Learner Outcome:

After successfully completing the course, the learner will have a deeper understanding and knowledge of the role and characteristics of an effective nurse leader and will self- report an increase in self-confidence in promoting a healthy work environment.


Eighty percent of the learners will report that they have the knowledge and confidence on a Likert Scale (1-5) in adopting at least two strategies that will allow them to become an effective nurse leader within their practice setting.


Successful completion of the learning session is defined as attendance for 100 percent of the learning session and a completed course evaluation for the session.


Target Audience:

Nurse managers, nursing coordinators, assistant nurse managers, staff nurses, chief nursing

officers, vice presidents of patient care, assistant vice presidents of nursing, administrative

directors, directors of nursing, administrative (house) supervisors, new ONL NJ mentors and mentees, Nursing Workforce

Environment Staffing Council (NWESC) members, university deans, nurse educators, nurse

researchers and post-acute leaders, nursing home administrators and assisted living

administrators.


Continuing Nursing Education Credits:

This nursing continuing professional development activity was approved by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, and accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. Approval refers to recognition of continuing education only and does not imply AACN or ANCC approval or endorsement of the content of this educational activity.

    This will be specific. Participants will be asked to bring their organization's reports. They will be asked to determine from their reports the number of FTE's per week (staffing plan per week), number of positions. Pre and post tests will be given. The results can be reported back to the organizations. It will be geared toward staff, charge nurses and nurse managers.
